Jesus & Celia Lamas
Kaitlin & Her Parents
Wayne and Kathie King live in Greenville, Michigan where the beautiful summers on Woodbeck Lake balance the cold (but fun!) winters. Wayne is recently semi-retired and helping Kaitlin's brother, Kegan, get his new business (King Water Wells) off the ground! He's also anxious for Frank to open his taco truck so he can learn the ropes. Kathie is an attorney, so she has their legal backsides covered (a big relief to Frank).
No one can decide if Kaitlin is more like her dad or her mom, which makes sense as she feels like she got the best of them both. (Kathie has always told Kaitlin to "take the best and leave the rest," and Frank would agree she has.) Kaitlin gets her extra friendly, laid back side from her dad, who makes friends easily wherever he goes. Kaitlin is often said to know everyone (though she contests she does not, because literally she doesn't). This analytical side comes from Kathie, who is known for her creative logic and ability to make everything pretty perfect--especially her apple pie and chicken artichoke casserole.
Kaitlin's favorite place in the world is the family cabin in Michigan's north woods. Her deep love for nature and fairy tales was instilled by her mom. Wayne's famous summertime sunset cocktail pontoon cruises are also on the top of the "favorite places" list.
Frank & His Parents
Jesus and Celia Lamas live in Los Angeles, California with Frank's 3 youngest siblings, Alyssa, Nicole, and Matthew. For 18 years they owned and operated a Mexican restaurant in Pomona, CA, and even though they no longer have it, Jesus stays busy catering events constantly (his tamales are famous--especially in Kaitlin's family).
It's hard to say from which one Frank gets his non-stop hard working tenacity, because neither of his parents can sit still for very long--always cooking, playing with grandkids, and generally making sure everyone else is taken care of before themselves. Frank's love for cooking comes from spending so many years in his younger days helping them out at their restaurant. He often calls his dad asking how he seasons the carne asada or makes his tomatillo chile sauce. It's easy to see that Frank's softer side comes from his mom who is always taking care of the family, instilling strong faith and compassion.
Frank's dream is to start a taco truck, and he will no doubt lean on his dad for all the help he can get! (Kaitlin hopes he takes advantage of his dad's knowledge and refreshes his tamale-making skills.) Celia will be there giving much needed love, support, and encouragement all the way.
